About ‘The Clare’
The Clare Concertina is designed for students looking for higher quality sound moving up from starter instruments. The reason the student needs to move up to a higher grade concertina is that these instruments have the springs set at a level to enable the student to do all the required ornamentation, with fast response from the fine tuned reeds.
Because of their high quality professional reeds these instruments are highly respected as session / competition instruments. All of the reeds sit into a groove which means they are fixed in position. We also seal the end reed pans into frame using chamois leather, this eliminates air leaks down the road and keeps the concertina sealed for its lifetime.
The highest quality materials go into making our instruments. We want the player to get the best experience and enjoyment possible out of our instruments and because of this we offer the player time to break the instrument in, and if there are adjustments needed such as, action or tuning, the player can get this work done as part of our service.
Our Mid Range instruments use the best professional Italian reeds and because of the maple reed pans they produce a very bright sound.
Features of ‘The Clare’ Concertina include:

“ The Clare” Mid Range Italian reeds
We go the extra mile when designing and making our concertinas. This is why we can guarantee our Concertinas for 5 year, labour and parts.
First of all we seal the end frames with White Shammy leather. This creates a permanent seal for life. Most makers do not do this
We glue the felt inside the buttons, this will give years of trouble free playing. Most makers do not do this
Our reeds valves will always have springs which could last for 20 years or more before needing re conditioning. Most makers do not do this
Our buttons are made of solid Steel with no plastic tip that’s wears away with time.
A lot of top makers use plastic tips at base of button
We position our reeds inside a 1mm groove and screw them down which stops any movement permanently. Most makers do not do this and some even use wax which dries up after a few years
In making our Clare Concertina we designed it so it is quite easy for the player to open up and do minor repairs such as dust on a reeds, Try opening up a Claddagh or a lot of English makes and you would need an instruction manual.
Last but not least, an instrument is all about the sound, The player will choose the particular instrument for its sound, We ensure that the low notes on the left side are all very clear and not muffled like some English made instruments. Why go and make something that sounds muffled when a little bit of research and you could sort it out.
